Issue#2489: Dell Inspiron N5010: N5010 - 8 beeps. Screen won't turn on

  • Hello.

I've had my N5010 for almost 3 years now, and lately I've come across some problems, which peaked with the last one - dead monitor apparntly.

It started with overheating problems sometime ago, then 2-3 weeks ago whenever I turned on the laptop it wouln't boot or show anything, meaning it would turn on, the lights were on but there were no beeps of signs of boot or any display (well, screen backlight was actually going on but it was still dark), What I did whenever that happend was letting the battery dry out and then would plug it to the power supply and turn it on, usually worked.

Then, about a week ago, it stopped working all together - whenever I turn it on, the screen stays black and after a few seconds the laptop starts to beep 8 times over and over again until I shut it down. I've read online that 8 beeps means there's a problem with my screen or something like that.

I've tried connecting it to an external monitor yesterday and it does work.

What are my options? My warranty runs out in about 2-3 weeks - thing is, my keyboard broke couple of months ago and I replaced it at my own expanse in a private shop - does it void the warranty? and does the warranty covers this at all? I just don't want to send it all the way to the lab when there's a possibility they won't even fix it either because warranty doesn't cover it or because warranty was voided...

    Thanks in advanced! :)

  • Issue#488505: Dell - Dell Inspiron 11 3000 won't turn on and beeps 5 times with black screen.

Anyone that has built a computer themselves or experienced a hardware failure will tell you that beeps usually mean something is wrong at the hardware level. A software upgrade, unless it is e a BIOS upgrade, usually doesn't cause the problem.

  • Issue#830555: Dell - RE: dell inspiron N5010 doesnt start only beeps 4 sounds

Now, have you tried each memory module in each slot and it fails with 4 beeps on every case? If yes, then I would suspect the motherboard to be faulty. The chances of 2 memory modules going faulty at the same time is very rare.

  • Issue#127330: Dell Inspiron N5010: Display have some problem. Not showing anything.

I have 4 yr old Dell Inspiron N5010. It was rebooting by giving blue screen while operating and some error code that "something crashed, check for newly installed drivers/devices" and then rebooting. I reinstalled AMD drivers too but in the end it started giving 8 beeps and no display (Display was starting with black backlight but no logo etc) I gave it to local technician, he said it's chipset problem and billed me for Rs.4800/- ($75). It was giving "Graphics card has stopped working and recovered error" afterwards too. In a month again the laptop starts but screen is dead. What should I do? Do I have to change whole processor or removing the Graphics card will solve the problem? Technician is asking for same amount again. ⟐ Answered February 16, 2016 at 2:33 am -0700
