Issue#556: Tableau - Multiple Data Source Filtering Using Different Dimension than Parameter's

  • Hi all, I’ve got a dashboard that has numerous sheets on it from multiple data sources. I’ve used a parameter to allow me to filter across all the data sources at once. The problem is, the dimension that I’ve used for my parameter is a product code that people can’t use for searching. What they need to use is the product name, but this product name dimension is in only one of the data sources. So is there a way for the user to select a product name in a quick filter on the dashboard and have all the vizzes change, even though it's the product code parameter that's filtering all the sheets?

    Thanks!

  • Issue#59964: Tableau - Not show Null Values in Quick filter for a dimension in secondary data source

Hello, I am using two excels; one is primary data source (Employee-Issues) and other is secondary data source (Employee-Data). I have built a tableau worksheet using Employee-Issues and then created a relationship (data blending) with secondary data source using employee id field. However I here is a dimension called Country in secondary data source and I want to use it as a Quick Filter. The issues is that when I am using it as quick filter "Null" values show up and I am not finding a way to get rid of null values. P.S- tried creating set and then using calculated field. However, after creating set and calculated field I am not able to use that cal field in the filterI have also tried using IsNull in condition but it still shows upI have tried creating this formula:if ISNULL(ATTR([ClusterMapping (ClusterMapping)].[Cluster]))=FALSE thenATTR([ClusterMapping (ClusterMapping)].[Cluster])ENDbut it is throwing me an error: the "==" function can not be applied to table calculations

  • Issue#124595: Tableau - Filtering across multiple data sources using parameters

I am referencing the tutorial url below:Filtering Across Multiple Data Sources | Tableau Software  I have 2 worksheets which are using 2 different data sources and I have displayed them in a dashboard where I want to use 3 filters and all the graphs in the dashboard should change based on my filter selections. I am using parameters to create filters and adding the calculated fields in respective worksheets to filter values but the graphs are now empty. Not sure what am I missing here.

  • Issue#414653: Tableau - How to filter different data source using quick filter or dynamic parameter

Hi all, I want to ask about filtering across different data source.  Problem:Above is the example from my dummy data. I have 2 sheet, "Sheet A" and "Sheet B". I need to filter both of them using "Company name" dimension. But because they came from different data source then I thought to use parameter at the first time. But, the weakness of parameter is we cannot show the list of dimension that available to certain "City", for short parameter cannot be dynamic as we use "Only relevant values" in quick filters. Because my data source contain thousand of Company Name, i think it will be strange if we show the client thousand of option, also parameter doesn't have "search" function as quick filters does. Any idea how it would be better? Expected result:I want to show list of company only for the choosen city, but the filters affected both of sheets. Thanks Randy

I am not sure what I am trying to do is possible or if there is a work around to accomplish this. Any help is appreciated.

  • Issue#1056943: Tableau - Tableau 10 - multiple data source filter - use for same data source, but different fields?

I've got a lengthy forum post going in which Joe Oppelt was trying to help me figure put how to use one "relative date" filter to filter on two different date fields for two different views on one dashboard.  The idea is that while I could probably filter both date fields using one filter via parameters, my users really want to keep the relative-date type filter - and only have to use it once for each view on the dasboard.  We (Joe ) couldn't find a way to do this in v9, but v10 offers an easy solution for filtering across data sources, so I hoped that maybe I could apply the same concept to a single data source with two different fields. However, I didn't have any luck.  Although it seemed to work at first, it was simply applying the same date filter for both sheets - which makes sense I suppose - that it was I told it to do after all.  So, I will finally arrive at my question - does anyone know if v10 will allow me to use one filter and apply it to multiple f

  • Issue#41: Tableau - How does Extract Filters and Data source filters vary the size of the Tableau Extract?

In Tableau 8.2 Data Source filters and Extract Filters used to work in the same manner. However in Tableau 9.0.4 both filters works differently.Extract Filter:As the name implies extract filters are used to filter out the data while creating the extract.Example: Let’s say we have database with the data for different countries as shown belowUSA –                    5000 rowsCanada –             2000 rowsIndia                      10000 rowsAustralia              1500 rowsIf we apply the Extract filters to bring the data only for USA (Country=USA), Tableau creates the Extract (.tde) just for the Country USA and ignore the data for all other countries.S

  • Issue#82: Tableau - Put the table/view name in the View Data window when previewing the contents in a Data Source.

When previewing the data in a table/view in the data pane of a Data Source it would be helpful to have the name of the object being viewed in the title bar. Preview the table/view: ...and in the title bar put the name of the table/view that is being displayed: When looking at multiple screens of custom SQL queries and bouncing between table/view previews I will sometimes draw a blank as to what table/view I'm previewing.  This is particularly helpful when I get pulled away and return to what I was doing as I would know right away what it was I was looking at before the interruption.

Hi All, Currently, I have a few quick filters on my dashboard on Tableau Server. • Issue#10493: Tableau - After publishing tableau server data source, the alias is no longer available and doesn't

This seems to be a bizarre issue I encountered today after publishing a data source to Tableau Server. While on my desktop I had an alias on a measure name. After publishing to Tableau Server, this alias disappeared (as expected). However, now I'm attempting to create a new measure with the same name as my alias, and it doesn't let me "A field named "X" already exists."   However there seems to be no way for me to access the previous alias in order to delete it. Anyone know how to workaround this issue?

  • Issue#19165: Tableau - Replacing data source lessons learned

Are there any good lessons learned on replacing the data source?  Every time I replace the data source, I keep having to manually copy over the calculated fields, groups and sets.  I also have to redo the alias.  My colors are also affected, so I have to reconfigure them as well. My question is:1.  Is there a more seamless process to replace the data source without having to manually copy and reconfigure?2.  If not, does somebody have a list of things that would have to be done manually, so that we don't have to figure it out when there is an issue?  Thank you

  • Issue#41991: Tableau - How to create a sub date range from an data source

I'm trying to create a parameter from a data source that is grouped by weeks (not days) until 9/1/15.  This is messing up my ability to create a functioning parameter, then filter for my sheet because Tableau isn't able to figure out if the number order correctly.  Is there a way to create a new date range that starts at 9/1/2015 so that my filters look normal and that  I can build off? example below:  As a result my filter numbers look weird:         Here's the formula I used to create the Calculated Field for Week ID:      left(str(datepart('year',[Date])*100+(datepart('week',[Date]))),4)+"-"+right(str(datepart('year',[Date])+(datepart('week',[Date]))),2)

  • Issue#50419: Tableau - Applying a filter to multiple data sources

Hello, I have come across an issue which I need some help with. The attached sample workbook can be used to illustrate the situation. My original problem revolved around creating a running sum of orders which were undelivered. The goal behind the calculation was to add new orders as they are created and subtract them from the running sum as they are delivered. With the help of a contributor on this forum, I was able to put together a solution; however, I am running into an issue with the filters. To solve the original problem, I created a calendar in Excel and imported it as a data source. Then, I duplicated my data source which included all the orders and information about them, linked the order date and delivery date fields from the two data sources to the imported calendar and put together a running sum calculation using the imported calendar as the primary data source which worked perfectly.  The issue I am running into now is adding filters on top of the running sum calc

  • Issue#86442: Tableau - Date Calcs Using Months Without Data in Data Source

Hello-   Does anyone know how to get a date calc to work when referring to months without any data in a data set.  I need to calculate days remaining from each month in a monthly trend view to a 'goal date' that a user can select via parameter.  However, data does not show in Tableau for the months that have no rows in the underlying table.  Basic formula I'm using:  DATEDIFF('day', (min([Date Placed Months])),[Goal Date])I'm trying to get this to give me # of days between the first day of each month in the view to the Goal Date selected by user.  It works for months that have data, however it's blank for the months without data. Any ideas? Thanks,Danny

  • Issue#109632: Tableau - refreshing a data source wipes out my plots

Hi I am importing data from an Excel sheet using "Extract" option but when I refreshed the data set accidentally, it wiped out all of my charts from the sheets. The strange thing is the sets and other activities I created all exist but no chart is being constructed. I can't even plot any simple bar graphs using existing field variables (not using sets). It happens even when I don't refresh the data source.  Thanks,Bhushan.

  • Issue#127272: Tableau - Multiple filters using same dimension

Hello I'm working on a dashboard with several sections (sales for brand 1, sales for brand 2), where i need to be able to filter on the same parameter in the different sections.  Section 1 (sales brand 1): filter on "target group -> young "Section 2 (sales brand 2): filter on "target group -> old + young"...... I only want the filters to apply to the relative section, so i have choosen the relevant sheets under the filters "apply to worksheets -> selected filters"  My problem is when i add the sheets to the Dashboard, the filter only shows up once (when adding the first element) even though the data in the different sections are filtered differently. I expected that the filter would appear multiple times, since it is not applyed across all the sheets.  Am i doing something wrong? is there any way to do this?  Hope this makes sense... Thank you in advance Best Jesper S.

  • Issue#140325: Tableau - Source for getting political parties data (EU)?

Hi, my first post here!  I am trying to create a viz that would show a breakdown of the parties within the national parliaments in the EU countries (possibly expanding further in the future) - by number of seats and political affiliation (ie. Left wing, Centre, Right wing etc.). I am wondering if there is a database where I could access this data? So far the best thing I came up with is manually creating the Excel spreadsheet from data available on Wiki, but this is obviously is quite time consuming, so I am wondering if there is a work around for getting this data. Thank you in advance! Best,Agata
